Week of October 3, 2011
11th Academic English
On Monday and Tuesday you will continue your library research for the Personal Narrative project we started last Friday.  Wednesday and Thursday, we will begin reading Arthur Miller's drama, The Crucible.  You will be given a study guide for Act I and are expected to answer the questions on the study guide as you read the play.  On Friday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #3 and will begin work on Vocabulary List #4.  Don't forget that your proposal for the Personal Narrative project is due on Wednesday!!

12th Academic English
Your Beowulf writing project is due on Monday!!!  No late papers will be accepted!!! On Monday we will begin our study of Arthurian Legend by watching two documentaries, The Legend of King Arthur and In Serach of Camelot.  Tuesday through Thursday you will read, outline and discuss "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" p. 162+ in the literature text.  On Friday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #3 and will begin work on Vocabulary List #4.  Make sure you keep up with all due dates and all classwork.

Week of September 26, 2011

11th Academic English
On Monday you will take a quiz on "Of Plymouth Plantation."  Make sure you study!  Tuesday we will watch a documentary titled "The Salem Witch Trials" in preparation for both our research projects and our study of the play, The Crucible.  Wednesday you will take a test on the Native American and Early American literature we have been studying in class.  This test includes all historical notes.  Thursday you will meet with Guidance to discuss college financial aid options and Friday we will begin work on our research project.

12th Academic English
On Monday we will finishing reading together and discussing Beowulf.  Tuesday, you will take a test on all of the early Anglo-Saxon information, including the epic poem Beowulf.  Wednesday you will meet with Guidance to discuss college financial aid options.  Thursday an Friday you will begin work on the Beowulf writing project.

Week of September 19, 2011

Homecoming Spirit Week 2011!!!!  Check the bright green flyer in your homerooms for all Spirit Week events and participate in the fun!

11th Academic English
This week we will continue our work with Explorer/Settler Narrative Accounts.  We will read and discuss selections from "The General History of Virginia" by John Smith, and a selection from "Of Plymouth Plantation" by William Bradford.  Make sure you take good notes in class as we read these.  On Thursday you will take Vocabulary Quiz #2 and will begin work on Vocabulary List #3.  Enjoy Homecoming Spirit Week 2011!

This week we will continue our work with Beowulf.  We will read, outline, read aloud and discuss this early epic poetry. Make sure you are taking good notes during our class discussions!  On Thursday you will take Vocabulary Quiz #2 and will begin work on Vocabulary List #3.  Enjoy your final Homecoming Spirit Week as a student at NS!!

11th Academic English
This week we will continue our study of Native American Literature and will begin a study of Early American Explorers/Settlers Narratives.  On Monday we will read and discuss three Native American selections, found on pp. 16-23 of your literature anthology.  Tuesday and Wednesday you will work on a writing prompt asking you to develop your own Creation Story.  This prompt is due on Friday.  On Thursday and into Friday we will begin to read and discuss Explorer/Settlers narratives, beginning on p. 62 in your literature anthology.

12th Academic English
On Monday we will read and discuss three Anglo-Saxon exile poems found on pp. 17-27 of your literature anthology.  Tuesday you will begin work on a writing prompt asking you to develop an essay on a time when you felt exiled.  This prompt is due on Friday.  Wednesday you will take a test on notes and literature to date.  Thursday and into Friday we will begin to study the epic poem Beowulf.

This week we will continue our study of early American literature.  On Tuesday we will review and discuss the introductory section you outlined last week and completed for homework over the weekend.  Wednesday and Friday we will read, discuss and take notes on selections from Native American literature.  Thursday you will take Vocabulary Quiz #1 and will work on Vocabulary List #2 and its review sheet.

This week we will continue our study of Early British literature.  On Tuesday we will review and discuss the introductory section you outlined last week.  Wednesday and Friday we will read, discuss and take notes on Anglo-Saxon exile poetry.  Thursday you will take Vocabulary Quiz #1 and will work on Vocabulary List #2 and its review sheet.
