Week of September 25, 2017
12th Academic English
This week we will continue our study of Beowulf. We will discuss the final sections of this epic poem and focus not only on events in the poem but on the characteristics of Beowulf that seem to embody qualities and values that are important to Anglo-Saxon culture.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz 2, will turn in reading response 2 and will work on vocabulary list 3.

11th Academic English
This week we will continue our work with Sentence Analysis.  We will check your answers to the worksheets you completed in class last week and will review for a test on Sentence Analysis.  That test will be scheduled for either Friday or Monday, depending on our worksheet review.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz 2, will turn in reading response 2 and will work on vocabulary list 3.

SAT Prep
This week we will spend a few days working with Chapter 17.  We will look at strategies to determine and author's point of view, to understand word/phrase choices, to distinguish between claims and counterclaims and to evaluate support evidence given in reading passages.  Later in the week you will work on a sample SAT test.

Week of September 18, 2017
12th Academic English
This week we will continue our study of the epic poem Beowulf.  We will concentrate our discussions on the Anglo/Saxon societal values and mores reflected in both the narration of the story and in the epic hero Beowulf himself.  Later in the week you will have some class time to work on reading response #2.  When our analysis of Beowulf is complete you will take a test on this and other Anglo/Saxon information.

11th Academic English
This week we will continue our work with Sentence Analysis.  You will analyze worksheet sentences and we will check your answers together.  On Wednesday and Thursday you will take the first round of CDT Tests.  On Friday you will have some class time to work on reading response #2. 

SAT Prep
On Monday we will complete work with Chapter 16.  Tuesday through Thursday you will work with the editing and revising workbooks, completing selections 6 through 10.  On Friday you will take the first SAT practice test in this course.

Week of September 11, 2017
11th Academic English
On Monday you'll take a quiz on the Parts of Speech, then we will begin work with the Parts of the Sentence and Sentence Analysis.  Make sure you have vocabulary list #1 and its worksheet ready to check on Tuesday.  On Thursday, you'll take vocabulary quiz #1, will turn in reading response #1 and will work on vocabulary list #2.

12th Academic English
This week we will continue work with the epic poem, Beowulf.  On Monday we will look at the introductory stanzas you read and notated and talk about some of the Anglo/Saxon cultural influences found in these stanzas.  We'll continue working with the poem, looking at several different analytical points throughout the week.  Make sure vocabulary list #1 and its worksheet are ready for Tuesday.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #1, will turn in reading response #1 and will work on vocabulary list #2.

SAT Prep
During the week we will work on chapters 14, 15 and 16 in the SAT Premier workbook.  You will be graded on two of the practice exercises for these chapters.  Check you calendars for grading days.

Week of September 4, 2017
Welcome back!!  Let's make this year the best year of your high school career!!

12th Academic English
This week you will have some time to complete the first reading response of the year.  This writing assignment is due on Thursday, September 14th at the start of class.  Wednesday we will talk about the Anglo/Saxon exile poetry you read in class last week.  We'll use this discussion as the basis for your first major writing assignment when you will be asked to write about a time you experienced exile in your life.  This work is due on Friday, September 15th.  Later in the week we will begin work with the epic Anglo/Saxon poem, Beowulf.

11th Academic English
This week we will begin our grammar review.  We'll start with the Parts of Speech and will practice identifying those in sample sentences from worksheets you will receive in class.  Make sure you are prepared for a quiz on the Parts of Speech early next week.

SAT Prep
Last week we practiced our editing and revising skills.  This week we will begin looking at the structure of the SAT Reading tests, and will practice strategies for deciphering this section of the SAT.  You'll use your SAT Practice books to develop these skills.
