Week of October 27th
11th Academic English We will watch the film The Crucible and note the similarities and differences between the film and the version of the play we studied in class. Later in the week we will work on Newsweek summaries, then begin reading the novel O Pioneers!

12th Academic English We will finish viewing the film Becket and will begin working on the essay test. Make sure you finish the essay test by the due date given to your section. (There are different due dates for each section of this class.) Later in the week we will begin studying The Canterbury Tales. To prepare for this, we will read, outline and discuss pp. 90-93 "Prepare To Read" and the English Medieval Period.

Week of October 20th
11th Academic English
We will finish our study of The Crucible by completing the Act IV Study Guide and by discussing the play in class. Prepare for Vocabulary Quiz #4 scheduled for Thursday, October 23rd. The final test on The Crucible will be given on Friday, October 24th.

12th Academic English
We will continue viewing the film Becket, using it to understand both the changing concept of hero in Western culture and the reason medieval Europeans made pilgrimages to Canterbury Cathedral. Prepare for Vocabulary Quiz #4, rescheduled for Friday, October 24th due to PSSA retesting.

Week of October 13th
11th Academic English
Enjoy your day off on Monday! On Tuesday, you must turn in your Newsweek Summary at the start of class. The Newsweek magazine you used should also be turned in at that time. Tuesday and Wednesday, we will discuss Act II of The Crucible and will take a quiz on the Act II Study Guide. On Thursday, October 16th, we will take a test on Acts I and II of The Crucible. We will begin work on Act III after the test on Thursday, continuing into Friday.

12th Academic English
Enjoy your day off on Monday! On Tuesday, we will discuss Morte d'Arthur (p.176) and will prepare for a test on Beowulf and Arthurian Literature. That test will happen on Wednesday, October 15th. After the test, and continuing through the rest of the week, we will begin watching the film Becket. You must take careful notes on this film, as you will be required to complete an essay test on the changing concept of hero as seen through all of the information presented to you since the start of the school year.

Week of October 6th
11th Academic English
Vocabulary Quiz #3 will be given on Thursday, October 9th. We will continue our study of The Crucible by reading Acts I and II, and by completing the study guides for each of those acts. A quiz on will be given upon the completion of each act. You will receive Vocabulary List #4 and its review sheet on Thursday after Vocabulary Quiz #3. You will also work on another Newsweek Summary, due next week.

12th Academic English
Vocabulary Quiz #3 will be given on Thursday, October 9th. We will continue our study of Arthurian Literature by reading and discussing both "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" (p.162) and "Morte d'Arthur" (p.176). Not only will we analyze the structure of the literature itself, but we will also look at the heroic qualities of King Arthur and the similarities/differences between Arthur and Beowulf. You will receive Vocabulary List #4 and its review sheet on Thursday after Vocabulary Quiz #3. You will also work on another Newsweek Summary, due at the end of the week.
