We will finish our study of The Crucible this week.  Make sure you have vocabulary unit #8 completed and are ready for a quiz on those words.  You'll also work on another news article during this week.  Midterm exams are just around the corner, so make sure you are getting ready for those.

We will finish our study of The Crucible this week by first discussing the film then looking at more recent "witch hunts" that have occurred in our country.  Did we learn any lessons from the Salem Witch Trials of 1692?  Be prepared to review vocabulary unit #8 in preparation for a quiz.  You will also have some time to work on reading response #8.

12th Academic English
We will continue or study of Shakespeare's MacBeth.  Be prepared for a test on the first three acts of this play and on the information you received about the English Renaissance.  We will review vocabulary unit #8 in preparation for a quiz and you will have some time to work on reading response #8.

We're wrapping up our study of The Crucible this week.  Be prepared for a quiz on Act IV on Tuesday then a test on the entire play later in the week.  We'll also watch a recent film version of this drama.  Make sure you note similarities and differences between the version we studied in class and the version we'll watch in class.  Be prepared to discuss those after we complete our viewing.

On Tuesday you'll take the final test on The Crucible.  We'll view a recent film version of this play in class this week.  Take note of differences and similarities between the play we studied in class and the drama portrayed in the film.  Be prepared to discuss those after we complete our viewing of this great work.

This week we'll take a quiz on Act II of MacBeth and, later in the week, a quiz on Act III.  You complete work on the Act III study guide and we will discuss Act III before you are evaluated on your understanding of that information.  Be prepared to discuss evidence of societal influences Shakespeare included in his telling of the story of MacBeth.

This week is busy!  You'll take vocabulary quiz #7 and work on list #8.  We will discuss Acts III and IV of The Crucible.  You will take a quiz on each of those acts.  Next week we will take a final test on The Crucible then watch a film version of this great drama.

On Monday we will review vocabulary list #5 and its worksheet in preparation for a quiz on Thursday.  This week we will begin a unit on Renaissance England and The Canterbury Tales.  Make sure you take good notes in class and during discussions.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #5, will turn in reading response #5, and will work on vocabulary unit #6.  The vocabulary quiz and the reading response are the first grades for the 2nd marking period.

This week we will work with Act I of Arthur Miller's The Crucible.  Make sure you read carefully and take notes in the margins of your workbook.  This Act sets the scene for the entire play, so critical, careful reading is necessary.

This week we will continue our study of Arthurian legend.  We will read together and discuss "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and will begin work on a selection from "Morte d'Arthur."  Monday we will review vocabulary list #4 and its worksheet.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #4, will turn in reading response #4 and will work on list #5.

This week we will work on some revising and editing selections to practice for the written portion of the SAT.  We will also work on chapters 20 and 21 in the workbook.

This week we will begin work on Arthur Miller's  The Crucible.  You will watch a documentary on the Salem With Trials, then will begin work with the play.  Make sure you have with you volume two of your literature workbooks and a place where you are keeping class notes.

This week we will begin work with Sentence Classification.  Take good notes during the power point presentation on this material.  We will use worksheets to first identify independent and subordinate clauses then to classify sentences as either simple, compound, complex or compound-complex.

12th Academic English
This week we will begin a look at Arthurian legend.  You will view and take notes on two documentaries, "In Search of Camelot" and "King Arthur".  After we view and discuss these, you will begin work with "Sir Gawain and The Green Knight".  Remember to think about our essential question, "What makes a hero?", as you work.

SAT Prep
This week we will work on chapters 18 and 19 in the workbooks, then will continue our editing and revising practice using selections from the Editing and Revising workbook.

This week we will continue our discussion of the epic poem Beowulf.  Using your highlighted and notated workbooks, you will discuss what makes Beowulf a hero.  You will take a test on this poem and the historical information about the Anglo-Saxons later this week, then will continue some literary analysis on other heroic stories.

This week we will continue analyzing sentences using the method demonstrated for you in class.  On Wednesday, you will take vocabulary quiz #2 and will work on vocabulary list #3.  Your reading response is due on Thursday at the start of class.  Thursday and Friday we will be completing CDT Testing.

On Monday you will turn in your exile writing at the start of class, then we will begin work with selections from Beowulf, reading selections in class and discussing what heroic attributes Beowulf demonstrates.  On Thursday you will complete vocabulary quiz #2, will turn in reading response #2 and will work on vocabulary list #3.

Monday and Tuesday you will take a test on editing and revising skills used in writing.  Wednesday through Friday we will read together and discuss reading strategies for the SAT found on pp. 331+ in the workbook.

This week we will review the Parts of Speech worksheet you completed in class.  On Wednesday, we will work on writing an article review.  You will work in class creating this writing that is due on Friday.  On Thursday, you will begin work on vocabulary unit #1.  Friday you will take a quiz on the parts of speech, will turn in your article review writing and, after the quiz, will continue work with the first vocabulary unit.

11th Academic English
On Tuesday you will work on vocabulary unit #1 and its review sheet.  Wednesday we will review the Parts of Speech worksheet you completed in class in preparation for a quiz on that information on Friday.  On Thursday we will review vocabulary unit #1 and the review sheet in preparation for a vocabulary quiz early next week.  On Friday you will take a quiz on the parts of speech and will begin work on the parts of the sentence.

12th Academic English
On Tuesday you will work on vocabulary unit #1 and its review sheet.  Wednesday we will read and discuss some early Anglo-Saxon exile poetry.  On Thursday we will review vocabulary unit #1 and its review sheet in preparation for a vocabulary quiz early next week.  On Friday we will finish our discussion of exile poetry and will begin a writing project based on this literature.

This week we will continue work with the College Board SAT Prep site.  We also will continue practice in revising and editing skills needed for the essay portion of this test.

This week we will wrap up our 11th Academic English course.  On Tuesday, you will take a test on the Modern/Postmodern Period in American literature.  Throughout the week we will continue to prepare for your final exam in this course, and will watch a film adaptation of the novel Of Mice and Men.  Make sure you are well prepared for the final exam.

Congratulations Seniors!!!  You have just about completed you high school education!!!!  Final exams are here, then it is time for the commencement ceremonies -- Baccalaureate, Awards Night and Graduation!!  Make sure you are well-prepared for your final exam in this course.  Luck and Success to you all as you begin this next phase of your lives!!

This week we will wrap up our look at American Modern/Postmodern literature.  We will review/discuss the stories you've already outlined and will take a look at the literary devices used in these stories.  On Tuesday you will work on the last reading response for this school year.  Later in the week I will give you a run-down of what materials will be on our final exam and you will have some time to begin gathering what you need to succeed on this exam.  On Friday you will take vocabulary quiz #16 and will turn in reading response #16.  Monday of next week you will take a test on the Modern/Postmodern literature we studied in class.  We're quickly coming to the end of the school year, so make sure you are prepared for all evaluations that remain.  Soon you'll be seniors!!!!

This week we will begin a study of literature from America's Modern/Postmodern Period.  You will read and outline historical information from pp. 702-13 in the literature anthology.  We will read and discuss "Winter Dreams," pp. 742-762, and "In Another Country," pp. 807-814.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #15, will turn in reading response #15 and will work on vocabulary list #16.  Make sure you keep up with classwork, as the school year is quickly coming to a close!

This week we will continue our study of literature from Britain's Modern/Postmodern Period.  We will discuss "The Lady In The Looking Glass; A Reflection," pp. 1156-1163, "The First Year of My Life," pp. 1164-1170 and "The Rocking Horse Winner," pp. 1174-1189.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #15 and will work on vocabulary list #16.  Make sure you keep up with classwork, as final exams and graduation are quickly approaching!

On Monday you will turn in part two of the final exam project.  This week you will continue work on the project, focusing on Costumes.  Remember to put your best effort into this project!

This week we will wrap up our look at Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.  On Monday you will take a quiz on the first study guide, then will continue work with the second half of the novel.  On Tuesday we will discuss chapters 4, 5 and 6.  You will take notes while we review information about literary elements found in the novel, then will use that information to create a plot diagram for this work.  Later in the week you will take a quiz on the second study guide and will prepare for a test on the novel that will be given early next week.

On Monday we will review introductory notes on Britain's Modern and Postmodern Periods.  This week we will begin to look at some literary selections that exemplify the characteristics found in most art forms during this very creative period.  Make sure you are taking excellent notes and are preparing both for a test on the Modern/Postmodern period and for the final exam.  Graduation is just around the corner!

On Monday we will discuss the final project for this course.  You will be required to turn in four components for this project, each worth 100 points, over the next four weeks.  The first component involves organizing a production team and creating production schedules.  This component must be completed in one week and must be turned in on Monday, April 25th.  Make sure you don't slack on this work!!

This week we will view a film version of Shakespeare's Hamlet.  You will be asked to note the similarities and the differences you observe between the version of this play we read in class and the film adaptation we will view in class.  Take notes during the film and be prepared to discuss what you observed.

12th Academic English
This week we will begin a look at some literature from Britain's Victorian period.  You should outline the introductory information found on pp. 802-813 in your literature anthology.  We will discuss this information in class, then begin reading some literary selections from this period.  We will also discuss a Character Analysis project you will be required to complete by the first week in May.  You will receive a handout on this project and its requirements.  Make sure you speak with Mr. Lucas if you have any questions.

This week you will work on the Character Analysis Project you began last week.  The project is due on Friday, as is the article review assignment, also begun last week.  Make sure you keep up with your work for this class!!

This week we will continue our look at literature from Britain's Romantic Period.  We will read together and discuss "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," pp. 686-709.  You will complete an "IF-THEN" worksheet on the Romantic Period.  When we finish our study of this period, you will take a unit test.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #13 and will work on list #14.

This week we will begin a Character Analysis project.  You will choose a lead character from a show we've studied and complete an analysis of this character.  More information will be given to you in class.  The project will be due next week.

This week we will take a look at the Romantic Period in British Literature.  You will take notes during a power point discussion of the historical and societal influences on this type of literature.  We will look at some examples from this period, including "Introduction to Frankenstein," pp. 650-654, "The Oval Portrait," pp. 658-660, and "Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey," pp. 666-671.

This week you will finish your project on Theatre Elements.  Make sure you have chosen an element of theatre production to examine from a specific show of your choice -- costuming, lighting, etc. -- and describe how this element influences the story/helps to create the total image of the show.

11th Academic English
This week we will continue our look at Shakespeare's Hamlet.  We will finish up our discussion of Act III and you will take a quiz on that act.  On Wednesday, you will take a test on Acts I, II and III, then we will begin our discussion of Act IV.  Make sure you complete the Act IV study guide as you are reading the act.

12th Academic English
Congratulations!!  You have completed the research writing unit!  This week we will begin work on the British Romantic Period.  You will read and outline introductory notes on pp. 610-622 in the literature anthology, then we will discuss this information.  You will also take notes during a power point discussion on British Romanticism.

Theatre Production II
Your Show Budget project is due this week.  Once you turn in that project we will view a production of Annie Get Your Gun

Week of March 7, 2016
11th Academic English
This week we will continue our study of Shakespeare's Hamlet.  We will read together and discuss Act III of this play, then you will take a quiz on Act III.  You will also take a test on Acts I, II and III.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #11 and will work on vocabulary list #12.  Reading Response #11 is due on Thursday also.

12th Academic English
This week you will continue work on the Research Writing Project.  On Wednesday at the start of class you will turn in a correctly formatted MLA Works Cited page.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #11 and will work on vocabulary list #12.  Don't forget that the final draft  of the research project is due at the start of class on Monday, March 14th.

Theatre Production II
This week you will work on the Budget Project.  You will be required to create a working budget for a musical production.  This project requires a lot of research, so make sure you are ready for the challenge!

Week of February 29, 2016
11th Academic English
This week we will continue our study of Shakespeare's Hamlet.  We will wrap up our discussion of Act I and will read together and discuss Act II.  You will finish the Act II study guide.  Later in the week we will take a quiz on Act II then begin work on Act III.

12th Academic English
This week we will continue our work on the research writing project.  On Monday we will discuss developing a Harvard style topic outline.  Your outline will be due on Thursday, March 3rd.  Note the change in the due date for this project assignment.  Later in the week you will receive a copy of a sample research paper.  We will discuss parenthetical citations and the works cited page later in the week.  Be prepared to begin writing your paper this week.

Theatre Production
This week we will take a break from working with Broadway musicals and view a stage production of a classic Broadway drama, Death of a Salesman.  When we finish viewing this production you will begin work on another theatre article review.

11th Academic English
On Monday you will take vocabulary quiz #10, will turn in reading response #10 and will work on vocabulary list #11.  Tuesday and Wednesday we will continue our discussion of Shakespeare's Hamlet.  Make sure you complete the Act II study guide in anticipation of a quiz on Act II.  Thursday and Friday we will be taking the second round of CDT Testing.

12th Academic English
On Monday you will hand in Document Packet #2, will take vocabulary quiz #10 and will work on vocabulary list #11.  Tuesday through Friday we will be in the library working on Document Packet #3.  This week you will receive a sample copy of a correctly formatted and correctly written position paper.  We will discuss this paper and will talk about the next two assignments  for this project, the outline and the works cited page.

Theatre Production II
This week we will finish viewing 42nd Street, then will begin work on the Show History Project.  Make sure you give your best effort to this project as it is worth 100 points.

We will continue work with Hamlet this shortened week, but not before we review vocabulary list #10 and its worksheet in preparation for the vocabulary quiz now moved to Monday.  On Wednesday you will continue work on the Act II study guide after we check vocabulary work.  Thursday you will have time to work on reading response #10, due on Monday.  Friday we will continue our discussion of Act I.

12th Academic English
Document packet #2 is now due on Monday, February 22nd.  Document packet #3 is now due on Monday, February 29th.  All other research project deadlines remain the same.  This week you will continue to gather and to process research for this project.  Make sure you are following all MLA guidelines for this work.  Also make sure you speak with Mr. Lucas should you have any questions or problems.  Vocabulary quiz #10 will happen on Monday, so be prepared.

Theatre Production II
This week we will view the film 42nd Street in preparation for work on the Show History Project.  Think about why and how this film was adapted for the Broadway stage.

11th Academic English
This week we will continue our look at Shakespeare's Hamlet. We will read together and discuss Act I and you will complete the Act I study guide.  On Wednesday you will take a quiz on Act I and will begin work on Act II and its study guide.

12th Academic English
You will continue your work on the research project this week.  On Wednesday you will turn in, at the start of your class period, the first set of documentation sheets.  Remember that deadlines are very firm, so you must have your work ready to submit on the deadline at the start of class.  The next set of documentation sheets is due on Wednesday, February 17th.  Remember that you won't be in class on Friday, February 12th or Monday, February 15th, so plan accordingly to get your work completed for this next deadline.

Theatre Production II
On Monday you will have some time in the library to find an article about current events in the Broadway theatre community.  You will write a summary of your chosen article and will submit that by Thursday.  On Tuesday you will start your next project.  You will be assigned a show and will research its history.  Make sure you refer to the handout to complete all of the requirements.  This project will be due next week.  Talk with Mr. Lucas if you have any questions or concerns.

This week we will begin our study of Shakespeare's Hamlet.  You will view two documentaries, Why Shakespeare? and William Shakespeare, A Life of Drama.  Make sure you take notes!!  We will begin reading Act I together and as we do you will complete the Act I study guide.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #9, will turn in reading response #9, and will complete work with vocabulary list #10.

12th Academic English
This week we will continue work on the research project.  You will turn in your thesis statement on Tuesday and will begin to gather research for your project.  Don't forget that you are required to use a variety of sources for this project.  Your project research cannot only be internet/electronic sources.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #9 and will complete work with vocabulary list #10.  Make sure you speak with me regularly while you complete this project, and make sure you use your time wisely and efficiently.

Theatre Production II
This week you will begin work on the Casting Project.  You will choose a piece of literature you've recently read to complete this assignment.  Make sure you clearly understand the requirements of the project you are completing.  Ask questions if something is unclear to you.  The project is tentatively due on Friday.

This week we will finish our study of Arthur Miller's The Crucible.  You should finish the Act Three and Act Four study guides as soon as possible.  We will read together and discuss each of these acts throughout the week.  Be prepared for a quiz on Act Three and a quiz on Act Four as we finish each.  On Friday, hopefully, you will take a final test on this play.  On Monday of next week you will take vocabulary quiz 8, then will begin to prepare for your midterm exam.

12th Academic English
This week we will finish our study of Shakespeare's MacBeth.  You should have finished the Act Four and Act Five study guides.  We will read together and discuss each of these acts this week.  Be prepared for a quiz after the discussion of each act.  On Friday, hopefully, you will take the final test on this play.  On Monday of next week you will take vocabulary quiz 8, then will begin to prepare for your midterm exam.

Theatre Production
You will work on the midterm project this week into early next week.  Each of you has been given your assigned musical and scene to produce.  We will use our library to gather information for completing this project.  Your completed project is due on Wednesday, January 13th.  Make sure you put great effort into this project.
