Week of December 1, 2009
11th Academic English
This week we will continue our grammar studies by focusing on clauses. You will practice identifiying clauses in sentences by labeling them either independent or subordinate. You will use those labels to classify the sentences as either simple, compound, complex or compound-complex. We will use exercises in your grammar books, beginning on page 70, to do this work. I will also give you worksheets to practice what you have learned. Remember to keep up with your reading of O Pioneers! Keep up with your work by following the second quarter calendar given to you at the start of the quarter.

This week we will continue or work with Shakespeare's MacBeth. You will finish the Act II study guide given to you last week. We will read together and discuss/analyze Act II of the play. When we finish, you will take the Act II quiz and will begin work with Act III. Keep up with your work by following the second quarter calendar given to you at the start of the quarter.

This week we will work on both Sentence Analysis and the novel O Pioneers! On Monday we will finish reviewing the sentence analysis worksheet. On Tuesday, you will take a test on Sentence Analysis. After the test, you will begin work on the Part Two study guide for O Pioneers! On Wednesday, you will take a quiz on the Part One study guide for O Pioneers! Have a great Thanksgiving break!

On Tuesday, you will take the Act I quiz and will begin reading Act II. You will also work on the Act II study guide. Wednesday, you will continue your work with Act II of MacBeth. Be sure to anwer the questions accurately and in detail. Later in the week we will continue our work with Sentence Analysis by practicing with more worksheets. On Thursday of this week you will take Vocabulary Quiz #6 and will work with list #7 and its review sheet. Don't forget that your Newsweek Summary is due on Thursday before you take the quiz!

This week we will review the Parts of the Sentence. On Monday, you will be given a grammar book to use for our grammar studies. Keep your literature anthology in your locker until you are asked to bring it to class. We will work with exercises in the book on pp. 32-44. On Friday, we will begin work with the novel O Pioneers! You will receive a study guide to complete while you read Part One of this novel.

This week we will continue our study of The Canterbury Tales by reading together "The Nun's Priest Tale" and "The Pardoner's Tale," pp. 119-150. You will summarize both tales in your notes and will take notes on our class discussions of each. On Friday, you will have a test on The Canterbury Tales. Make sure you have great notes on all of this material and that you study this information thoroughly for the test.
