Week of November 2, 2015
11th Academic English
On Monday you will take another test on Sentence Classification.  Make sure you study!!!! On Tuesday and through the rest of the week we will begin a look at the earliest American literature, Native American Origin Legends.  You will outline some introductory notes on pages 1-12 in the literature anthology, then we will read together and discuss "The Earth on Turtle's Back," "When Grizzlies Walked Upright," and "Navajo Origin Legend," pp. 16-23.  Near the end of the week you will begin work on a writing assignment related to these stories.

12th Academic English
On Monday and into the middle of the week you will have class time to work on "The Prologue" from The Canterbury Tales.  Later in the week we will begin to read together and discuss "The Nun's Priest Tale," pp. 118-137.  Make sure you are taking exemplary notes on all of this information.

Theatre Production
On Monday we will begin our next unit, Set Design, by watching a stage version of Peter Pan.  You should take specific note of how the set is used to further tell the story in this Broadway adaptation of this classic.  When we finish viewing this show you will begin to construct a three dimensional model of a set.

Week of October 26, 2015
11th Academic English
On Monday and Thursday of this week we will participate in a study of the College Board's ACT Writing Test.  Tuesday and Wednesday we will review Sentence Classification for another test on this material.  (You will take that test on Monday, November 2nd.) On Friday you will take vocabulary quiz #4, will turn in reading response #4 and will work on vocabulary list #5.  Make sure you prepare well for the vocabulary quiz, the reading response and the second Sentence Classification test, as these will be the final grades for the 1st quarter.

12th Academic English

Theatre Production
On Monday through Wednesday you will work on the Blocking Project.  Details of the project requirements will be discussed in class on Monday.  You will turn in your project later this week.  After the Blocking Project is complete we will view a stage production of Peter Pan in preparation for your next project -- Scenic Design.

Week of October 19, 2015
11th Academic English
On Monday you will take vocabulary quiz #3 and will work on vocabulary list #4.  Tuesday we will finish checking worksheet answers and will review for a test on Sentence Classification.  You will take that test on Wednesday, then will continue work with the Editing and Revising workbooks.  On Thursday we will work together with the Editing and Revising workbooks in preparation for an Editing and Revising quiz on Friday.

12th Academic English
Monday and Tuesday we will continue our analysis of Arthurian literature.  We will finish discussing "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and will read together and discuss the selection from Morte d'Arthur.  On Wednesday you will take a test on this information, then begin work with The Canterbury Tales.  Thursday and Friday you will work with "The Prologue" from The Canterbury Tales.

Theatre Production
On Monday we will discuss what blocking techniques you observed while watching Auntie Mame.  You will then begin work on a blocking project that will be due later in the week.  On Friday you will take a quiz on blocking/unit 5 in our workbooks.

Week of October 12, 2015
11th Academic English
On Tuesday and Wednesday we will continue classifying sentences according to structure.  On Thursday and Friday we will be taking CDT Writing Tests during our class period.  Be prepared for Vocabulary Quiz #3 on Monday, October 19th.  Reading Response #3 is still due at the start of class on Thursday.

12th Academic English
This week we will continue our study of Arthurian literature.  On Tuesday we will begin reading and discussing "Sir Gawain and The Green Knight."  When we finish that we will look at a selection from Morte d'Arthur.  On Friday you will take vocabulary quiz #3, will turn in reading response #3 and will begin work on vocabulary list #4.  Be prepared for a test on Arthurian literature when we finish this unit.

Theatre Production
This week we will look at the three types of staging and how blocking scenes changes for each.  To prepare for this project we will view the play Auntie Mame.  Make sure you think about how you would change scene blocking to meet the requirements for the three types of staging while you watch this play.

Week of October 5, 2015
11th Academic English
This week we will continue identifying clauses in sentences.  We will use this skill to classify sentences according to structure.  Later in the week or early next week you will take a test on Sentence Classification.  Make sure you prepare for this assessment.

12th Academic English
This week we will begin a study of Arthurian literature.  You will view two documentaries, one on King Arthur and another on his kingdom, Camelot.  When we finish viewing these works, you will read and outline introductory notes on page 161 of the literature anthology.  We will read together and discuss "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight," p. 162+, and a selection from "Morte d'Arthur," p. 176+.  Don't forget that the new due date for your Beowulf Project is Thursday, October 8th.  Make sure you are ready to hand in your project at the start of class on Thursday.  No late projects will be accepted.

Theatre Production
This week you will finish work on your costume project.  Expect to present your work either Wednesday or Thursday.  We will look at theatre articles via the Internet and you will write a response to one of those articles you select.  The response will be due on Tuesday, October 13th.  Later in the week we will begin viewing Auntie Mame in preparation for work on a blocking project.
