Week of December 9, 2019
11th Academic English
This week we will finish reading The Crucible.  On Monday, we will begin discussing Act IV and will prepare for a quiz on this act later in the week.  Tuesday we will review vocabulary list #7.  You will have time to work on reading response #7 after our vocabulary review.  On Thursday you will turn in reading response #7, will take vocabulary quiz #7 and will work on vocabulary list #8.

12th Academic English
This week we will complete our study of Shakespeare's MacBeth.  On Monday, we will review Act V of this play and prepare for a quiz on this act later this week.  On Tuesday we will review vocabulary list #7.  On Thursday you will turn in reading response #7, will take vocabulary quiz #7 and will begin work on vocabulary list #8.  Monday, December 16th, you will take the final unit test on MacBeth.

12th English
This week we will wrap up our study of MacBeth.  On Monday and into Tuesday we will discuss Act V of this play.  On Wednesday you will take the Act V quiz.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #7 and will work on vocabulary worksheet #8.  The final unit test on MacBeth will be given on Monday, December 16th.

This week we will finish up our work with Sentence Classification.  On Tuesday we will check answers to the second worksheet you received last week.  On Wednesday you will take a test on Sentence Classification.  After the test we will begin a study of Arthur Miller's classic play, The Crucible.  Make sure you bring with you volume two of your literature workbooks.  We will continue with The Crucible on Thursday and Friday.

12th English/12th Academic English
This week we will finish our study of Arthurian literature.  On Tuesday we will discuss "Morte d'Arthur."  On Wednesday you will take a test on Arthurian literature, then we will begin a study of Shakespeare's play, The Tragedy of MacBeth.  The great news here?  Our school will see a live theatrical performance of this work in November!  Make sure you bring volume one of your literature workbook.  We will continue with MacBeth on Thursday and Friday.

This week we will wrap up our look at Beowulf.  On Monday we will review for the test on this epic poem.  The test is scheduled for Wednesday.  You will also complete vocabulary worksheet #2 and news article worksheet #2.  We will review vocabulary on Tuesday.  Vocabulary quiz #2 is on Friday and news article #2 is also due on Friday.

12th Academic English
On Monday you and your group will present your work from the Beowulf chunking activity.  We will review for your test on this epic poem scheduled for Wednesday.  We will review vocabulary list #2 and its worksheet on Tuesday and you will have time this week to complete work on reading response #2.  The response is due on Friday at the start of the period.  Vocabulary quiz #2 will happen on Friday.  Later this week we will begin work on Arthurian legend literature.

You will turn in your Exile writing at the start of class on Monday.  We will continue our work on Beowulf and will prepare for a test (later this week or early next week) on all of the information about this poem and the Anglo/Saxons.  After the test you will begin work on a project based on Beowulf.

11th Academic English
This week we will practice Sentence Analysis.  You will use worksheets given to you to practice this skill and we will check answers on the board.  At the end of the week you will take a test on Sentence Analysis.  Make sure  you memorize the analysis chart given to you in class!

On Monday you will present your group work focused on the three Anglo-Saxon poems we read in class.  Make sure you are ready for a discussion on this information.  On Tuesday we will review vocabulary list #1 in preparation for vocabulary quiz #1 on Thursday.  Your first reading response is also due on Thursday.  Throughout the rest of the week we will work on the epic poem Beowulf.  Don't forget to work on your Exile Paper, due on Monday, September 16th.

This week we will begin our look at Anglo-Saxon literature.  Make sure you take good notes during class.  We will look at some Anglo-Saxon exile poetry and determine what the narrators were feeling while telling us their stories.  Later in the week you will begin work on a writing centered on exile.

This week you will take notes during a power point discussion of early English history.  We will use this knowledge to discuss Anglo-Saxon exile poetry and to compare Anglo-Saxon society to our society.  Later in the week you will begin work on a writing prompt centered on your experience with exile.

This week we will wrap up or preparations for Interview Day.  Remember to check the handouts and to dress appropriately for your interview on Wednesday, May 1st.  Later in the week we will begin work with some short stories from the Modern Period in American Literature.  Make sure you have volume 2 of your literature series with you for class work.

12th Honors/Academic English
This week we will begin work with literature from the British Modern/Postmodern period.  You will take notes during a power point presentation on the historical background of this period, then will begin work with literature from the period.  We are quickly moving toward the end of the course, so make sure you are keeping up with the work.

This week you will continue your work with the required and optional chapters in the Premier SAT Workbook.  Take your time and carefully practice the strategies discussed in each of the chapters.

**NS Theatre Arts' production of WEST SIDE STORY takes place Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th in our auditorium!  Curtain is at 7:00PM

This week we will begin a look at America's Jazz Age.  We will use short stories written by F. Scott Fitzgerald to further our understanding of our country's coming of age.  You will be loaned an anthology of Fitzgerald's stories and will be given a project assignment sheet to guide you through this literary study.  Make sure you take notes and ask questions as we proceed.  Reading response #14 is due on Friday, April 5th.  Vocabulary quiz #14 will be given on Friday as well.

12th Academic/Honors English
This week we will wrap up our look at literature from England's Romantic Period.  We will discuss both "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and the selections from Frankenstein in preparation for a test on this period.  Vocabulary quiz #14 will be given on Friday and you will start work with vocabulary list #15 on Friday as well.

SAT Prep
Fourth quarter students will begin this course on Tuesday, April 2nd.  We will discuss class expectations and structure on Tuesday, then will begin work with the Editing and Revising workbooks.  You will receive a copy of an excellent resource, Kaplan's SAT Premier Workbook, to complete assignments for this course.

This week we will finish viewing Hamlet.  Make sure you are ready to discuss the similarities and the differences you noticed between the film version of this play and the written version we studied in class.  Later in the week we will discuss America's Jazz Age and its influence on American literature from that period.

This week we will continue our study of British literature from the Romantic Period.  We will review your work with "Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey" and "The Prelude,"  then will look at some odes from the period.  Finally, we will look at a selection from the novel, Frankenstein and will begin work with "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner."

SAT Prep
This is the final week of our time together.  Make sure you turn in any work from chapters you were permitted to redo.  All work must be turned in to me no later than Friday morning.

This week you will narrow your chosen research topic.  On Tuesday you will turn in your General Topic.  On Thursday you will turn in your Specific Topic and on the following Tuesday, you will turn in your Thesis Statement.  Make sure you are using your library time wisely and are asking for help and clarification as needed.

This week we will continue our study of the English Renaissance and of Shakespeare's MacBeth.  Make sure you take good notes as you will have a test on the English Renaissance information in the near future.

Early this week you will finish your work with the first five selections from the Editing and Revising workbooks.  When this work is finished, you will begin work using the SAT Premier workbook.  Remember to complete at least two required chapters per week.  Make sure you speak with Mr. Lucas should you have any questions.

On Monday you will take the Act V quiz and on Wednesday you will complete the unit test, ending our study of Shakespeare's MacBeth.  This week we will begin work with a research writing unit.  This unit will prepare you to write successfully on the university level.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #9.

This week we will begin a study of Shakespeare's tragedy, MacBeth.  On Monday you will take notes while we discuss The English Renaissance.  Throughout the week you will begin working with Act I of this play.  On Thursday you will take vocabulary quiz #9.

This week we will begin our study of Shakespeare's Hamlet.  On Tuesday and Wednesday you will take notes while watching two documentaries, one a biography of Shakespeare and the other a look at Shakespeare's influence in our world today.  We will begin working with the play when we finish viewing the documentaries.  Don't forget to turn in your completed project from The Crucible on Wednesday at the start of class.

This week we will wrap up our study of Shakespeare's MacBeth.  We will read together portions of Acts IV and V, and will discuss each of the acts.  You will take a quiz on Act IV and Act V. On Monday of next week you will take the final test on this unit.

This week we will wrap up our research writing unit.  The Works Cited page is due on Tuesday and the final draft of the paper is due on Thursday.  Make sure you speak with Mr. Lucas if you have any problems or questions.

On Friday, you will take vocabulary quiz #8 and will turn in reading response #8.  You should have completed the Act IV study guide.  You will be given the Act V study guide and should begin work on that.

Your last set of documents is due on Thursday.  You should begin writing your research paper, making sure that you are proving your thesis by carefully using your data to prove your point.

SAT Prep
We are coming down to the wire in this course.  You should have the majority of the required chapters completed by now and should be wrapping up loose ends.  By Monday you should be ready to begin work on Practice Test #1.
