Week of March 29, 2010

Academic English 12

Students must have completed vocabulary definitions and worksheet for list #13. Romantic Literature Test will cover historical information as well as analysis of specific works, and will be held Tuesday, March 30. Students must bring Literature books to class on date of test! The date for the biweekly Vocabulary Quiz has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 31; Newsweek summaries will also be due on this date.

Academic English 11

Students must have completed vocabulary defintions and worksheet for list #13. Students will continue to in PSSA Reading Coach books. Make-ups for the Literary Device Quiz will be held Tuesday, March 30.The date for the biweekly Vocabulary Quiz has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 31; Newsweek summaries will also be due on this date.

Week of March 22, 2010

Academic English 12
Students will continue analysis of Romantic Era Literature and will begin reading Samuel Taylor Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Independently, students will read the work in its entirety and take notes. Notes should include more than summarized events and should focus on specific elements that would classify the work as "Romantic" as well as actual construction of the piece. Elements that are apparent in the poem will be discussed prior to reading, Parts I and II will be read in class, summarized, and analyzed. Students will be responsible to discuss Parts III, IV and V in class on Wednesday in the same manner of the previous day's work. Students should be prepared to discuss and analyze Parts VI and VII on Thursday. Students will begin an independent reading of Coleridge's Kubla Khan and make notes similar to that of the discussion of The Mariner.
Vocabulary #13 definitions and completion of the worksheet will be checked on Monday, March 29.

Academic English 11
Students will continue working in the PSSA Reading Coach books. All work regarding the Coach book will be done in class. Students will be given a review of common literary terms, devices, and elements. A quiz on this information will be given Thursday, March 25.

Week of March 8, 2010

Academic English 12

Students will be required to submit any incomplete work in order to receive credit for further grades regarding the research project.
Students will submit the Works Cited section of their researched position paper in proper MLA format on Wednesday March 10.
Students will also be required to submit a rough draft of their paper on Friday March 12. The paper should be reflective of the quality and direction of their final product.

Academic English 11

Students will complete the Act III Quiz for Hamlet on Tuesday March 9.
Students will be required to complete independent reading of Act IV and complete the corresponding study guide in full to be graded on Thursday March 11. Students will be alotted time during class to complete the reading and written assignments.
Students will be required to complete independent reading of Act V and complete the corresponding study guide in full to be graded on Friday March 12. Students will be alotted time during class to complete the reading and written assignments.

Week of March 2, 2010

Academic English 12

Due to the recent snow days, the final set of note cards that were due on Friday February 26 will be due today, Tuesday March 2. Students were notified that if weather were the case the date would revert to the next school day following the due date.
Students will have a quiz on Vocabulary 11 on Thursday March 4 and will be required to define the next section of terms.
Students will also be given a review of the outline section for the research project Wednesday March 3 and the outline due date will be rescheduled to Friday March 5.

Academic English 11

Students will read Hamlet Act III scene i and scene ii (up to pg 145). Students should be prepared to complete an entrance ticket featuring a question based on the reading to be given Wednesday March 3. Study guides must be completed up to scene i.
Act III scene ii will be read in class and discussed on March 3, what ever material is not covered will be assigned as independent reading for homework. Students will read scene ii by Thursday March 4 and complete the study guide questions up to scene ii.
Students will also have a quiz on Vocabulary 11 on Thursday March 4 and will be required to define the next section of terms.
Act III scene iii and parts of scene iv will be read in class on Friday March 5; what ever material is not covered will be assigned as independent reading for homework. Students will be required to finish Act III and answer all study guide questions by the start of class on Monday March 8.
