Week of May 2, 2011
11th Academic English
This week we will finish our study of Modern and Postmodern American Literature.  On Monday and Tuesday, you will work on both the biographical information of John Updike (p. 1000) and on his short story "The Brown Chest" (pp. 1002-1008)  We will discuss this work together.  On Wednesday you will prepare for a test on the Modern and Postmodern Periods.  That test will happen on Friday.  On Thursday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #16 and will turn in Newsweek summary #16.  You will then begin work on Vocabulary List #17 and its review sheet.

12th Academic English
This week you will continue your study of the British Modern and Postmodern periods.  Monday through Wednesday, you will work on "The Fiddle," p. 1078-1084, and  "The Lady in the Looking Glass," p. 1158-1164.  You will also read and outline biographical information on both Alan Sillitoe, P. 1076 and Virginia Woolf, p. 1156.  On Thursday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #16, turn in Newsweek summary #16 and begin work on Vocabulary List #17 and its review sheet.  Friday will be a Frankenstein project work day.  Remember to keep up with your work according to the calendar.  May will quickly pass by.

Week of April 25, 2011
11th Academic English
This week we will continue our study of literature from America's Modern Period.  On Tuesday, you will take a quiz on Ernest Hemingway and "In Another Country"  You will read and outline biographical information on James Thurber and his short story, "The Night The Ghost Got In,"  pp. 896-902 in the literature anthology.  We will also study some literary devices used in these stories.  Finally, you will read and outline information on the American Postmodern Period, "Prosperity and Protest," pp. 958-965 in the literature anthology.  Remember that the end of the quarter is rapidly approaching.  Stay current with all assignments!!!!

12th Academic English
This week you will begin your study of the British Modern and Postmodern Periods.  You will read and outline "A Time of Rapid Change," pp. 950-960 in the literature anthology.  You will also take notes during a powerpoint presentation on this information.  We will read and outline biographical information on Elizabeth Bowen (p. 1030) and Alan Sillitoe (1076), then read "The Demon Lover," pp. 1032-1038 and "The Fiddle," pp. 1078-1084.  Remember that the end of your 4th quarter is rapidly approaching.  Stay current with all assignments!!!

Week of April 18, 2011
11th Academic English
This week we will continue an analysis of the literature from the American Modern Period.  You will take a quiz on Steinbeck and his short story "The Turtle" on Tuesday.  We will work together on Ernest Hemingway's "In Another Country" pp. 806-814 in the literature anthology.  On Thursday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #15 and will also turn in Newsweek summary #15.  Friday begins our Easter break.  Enjoy the time away from school.  When we return, the rest of the quarter will fly by!  Happy Easter!

This week we will complete our study of the British Victorian Period.  We will finish our discussion of the Victorian literature assigned to you.  On Wednesday (note the change from the calendar) you will take a test on the Victorian Period.  On Thursday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #15 and will also turn in Newsweek summary #15.  Friday begins our Easter break.  Enjoy the time away from school.  When we return, the reaminder of the 4th quarter, (and your high school career!) will fly by!  Happy Easter!

Week of April 11, 2011
11th Academic English
This week we will continue our analysis of modern American literature.  We'll review biographical information about both F. Scott Fitzgerald and John Steinbeck.  We'll finish reading and outlining the short story "Winter Dreams" and will take a quiz on that story on Thursday.  We'll also read and discuss "The Turtle" and prepare for a quiz on that early next week.

12th Academic Englsih
This week we will continue our study of Victorian British literature by reading and discussing the poetry of both Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her husband, Robert Browning.  We will also read, discuss and take notes on a selection from the Victorian novel, Jane Eyre and outline birgraphical information on its author, Charlotte Bronte.

Week of April 4, 2011 11th Academic English This week we will move into the Modern Period of American literature. We will read, outline and discuss "Disillusion, Defiance and Discontent," pp. 704-713, biographical information about F. Scott Fitzgerald on p. 742 and the short story "Winter Dreams" pp. 744-762. On Thursday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #14 and will turn in Newsweek summary #14

12th Academic English This week we will wrap up our study of the Romantic Period in British literature. On Monday and Tuesday, we will read together and discuss "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," p. 686+ On Wednesday, you will take a test on all of the information you have on the Romantic Period. On Thursday, you will take Vocabulary Quiz #14 and will turn in Newsweek summary #14 also. Friday we will begin our study of The Victorian Period in British literature.
